Simpson wins Bronze & Platinum Awards

We have just received news from the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. The 2006 Georgia’s Single Statewide Accountability System Awards have just been granted.  Out of 269 Georgia Schools, 36 middle schools in the State of Georgia received awards. Simpson Middle School received a Bronze Award for student Performance on the Spring 2005-2006 CRCT. The Bronze Award recognizes schools with at least 95% of the students "Meeting and Exceeding Standards, with at least 20% Exceeding Standards."  Simpson also received a Platinum Award for the "Greatest Gain in the Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards, with at least 35% Exceeding Standards."   Only nine middle schools received this Platinum Award in the State of Georgia.  We are so proud of our students and our teachers.

Attendance

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance is crucial to maximizing instructional time and continued student achievement.  We need your assistance in ensuring that your child is present at school and on time daily.  Students who are chronically tardy or absent from school miss instructional time that they can never regain.  Students who attend school regularly and actively participate in the learning process will improve academically.

                            Excused Absences

The Georgia Board of Education defines excused absences as:

  1. Personal Illness
  2. A death or serious illness in the immediate family
  3. Recognized religious holidays observed by their faith;
  4. Absences mandated by order of government agencies;
  5. Conditions which render school attendance impossible or hazardous to their health and safety.

Progress Reports

The East Cobber Parade was a wonderful experience on Saturday, September 16.  Thanks to Donna Miller's husband, Paul, Simpson had seven Corvettes in the Parade.

Progress reports went home with students on Friday, September 15. I hope this student progress report prompts family discussion on academic progress.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email the teacher or counselor for a conference.  We want parents to be a part of the learning process.

BLOGS

Your student will be working hard; therefore, he or she needs your support, encouragement, and involvement. Call on your child’s teacher, counselor, or administrator for any assistance you may need during this school year.

Every staff member now has a BLOG.  If your student is absent from school, you can know what happened that day and, what homework was assigned.  You will also know when major tests are scheduled or projects are due.  Parents, we want the lines of communication between school and home to be open. Please go to the Simpson Website to visit a teacher’s blog.
