All State Students Selected

Congratulations to John Yoon and Benton Reed for being selected as members of the 2012 Georgia All State Band!  

After undergoing two rigouous auditions, these two students will now participate in the all-state rehearsals and concert held in Savannah on March 1-3.

John Yoon placed 2nd chair on clarinet, and Benton Reed placed 6th chair on Euphonium.  We would also like to congratulate Austin Summy for placing 2nd alternate on Bassoon.  We are so proud of all our students who put in the extra practice time and made it to this final audition.

6th Grade Winter Concert

Dear Sixth Grade Band Parents and Students:

The concert will be Tuesday, January 24, at 7:00 PM, in the Simpson theatre.  Students need to meet in the band room by 6:15 PM with their instruments and music for warm-up and tuning. Please assemble your instruments in the band room and put your cases back on the shelves before sitting on the floor in your rows.  Dress for the concert should be nice clothes.  Sixth grade band does not have uniforms. 

Performances are an integral part of band participation, and all students are expected to attend.   Any absences from this event need to be cleared in advance with one of the directors.

After the concert, we will ask all students to help take chairs, stands, and percussion instruments back to the band room.  Please expect that this will take about ten minutes and that we will need everyone to help.  If you can assist your child with their chair and stand, this will ensure that each child has appropriate supervision and we can all go home more quickly.  The entire program should end no later than 7:40 PM.    

In preparation for this concert we will need to have two morning rehearsals with the entire 6th grade band.  The students do not meet together as a full band during the school day, so these rehearsals are obviously necessary in order to be prepared for our big concert.  Please make sure your children are in attendance.

Tuesday, December 20

7:00 PM 

Call time for all bands is 6:15 PM.  The 7th grade concert band will meet on the stage, the 8th grade concert band will meet in the chorus room, and the 7th & 8th grade symphonic band will meet in the band room.  Students should be dressed and in place by 6:15.

All uniforms have finally arrived.  Please make sure they are hemmed to the appropriate length.  The uniform consists of the following for each student:

Boys:  black tux pants, white tux shirt, solid black shoes and black socks

Girls:  black band dress, solid black shoes, minimal jewelry

CONGRATULATIONS - DISTRICT ALL-STATE RESULTS!

Lassiter Percussion Ensemble Concerts

Below is information about upcoming concerts for the Lassiter High School Percussion Ensemble as we get prepared for The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic.  Please share the information with anyone that may be interested in attending the concerts.

featuring The Boston Brass.  Dr. John Parks from

Florida State University will also perform with the group on

“Suite for Solo Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble”

Cheesecake Fundraiser Pick-Up

Parents,

Our cheesecake fundraiser items will be delivered to school tomorrow.  

• You may arrive for pick-up of your order anywhere between 2:00 PM-7:00 PM.  
• This is the ONLY day items will be distributed.  
• Please remember these items are PERISHIBLE, food products and must be picked up and delivered in a timely manner.  You may want to bring coolers, or large freeer-type bags for pick-up.

Pick up will take place in your child's music classroom.  Please check-in at the table and have a volunteer double-check your order before leaving.  You will receive your order form with the names and addresses of your customers upon check-out.  Remember:

• Check OUT 

Checking in and out are essential.  Some products have similar packing and you want to make certain you have the correct items before leaving the band room.  We did not order extra cases of products, so please have someone double-check your order before leaving.  We have no room for errors caused by not following procedures.  

 

Volunteers needed for Thursday's fundraiser distribution

When:  Thursday....TOMORROW
Hours:  Arrival at 9:00 AM-Finished at 7:00 PM
Where: Simpson Band Room

The delivery truck will arrive at 9:00 AM, and we will be sorting and distributing the products until 7:00 PM.  Please spread the word that we desperately need help in order for the fundraiser distribution process to be a success.  

We can get the band classes to unload the products in the morning, but the real work is in assembling the orders from 9:00-2:00, and manning the check-in and check-out tables from 2:00 until 7:00 PM.  I need some responsible adults to help with those two areas.

Please reply if you are available to help in any capacity.  Spread the word.  Bring a friend.

BAND UNIFORMS

Girls:  

The dresses are in.  If you have not yet paid for your band dress, please deposit your payment into the money envelope and place in the black box.  Dresses will be distributed once payment is received.  Remember to pick up the "hemming instructions" with your dress.  All dresses must be hemmed before the first concert on December 20.

Boys:

If you missed taking advantage of the uniform fitting on Tuesday, you will need to go to Men's Wearhouse on Barrett Parkway and purchase the tux items on your own.  Let them know you are from Simpson Middle School to make sure you receive the correct parts.  You will need tux pants, and a tux shirt with a wing-tip collar.

If you paid and were measured for tux pants and shirts on Tuesday, they will be delivered in approximately 2-3 weeks.  

All tux pants will need to be hemmed before the first concert on December 20.
