April 29-May 2

CRCTs will soon be over, but the school year has not so we will continue to work.  Our next unit will be on Geometry.  Attached is the parent letter for this unit.  Because past scores have indicated that this is an area of weakness, I will be covering more than what is in the parent letter.  This week we will begin on basic geometric vocabulary that is found in section 7-1.  We will also be working on measuring angles with a protractor and identifying the different types of angles.  On Friday the students will have a brief test over vocabulary.  Those words will include the following:

point, line, plane, segment, ray, angle, right angle, acute angle, obtuse angle, complementary angle and supplementary angle.

I will expect them to be able to know the definitions and be able to match the symbol to the word.  All of this information including the symbols are found on page 324 of the text book.

March 31-April 4

We are 10 days from the CRCT!  I am going to finish unit 5 up and review CRCT content.  Please encourage your students to use the online practice and to also be focused in class.  School is not over yet!  I know the year is not over, but I have enjoyed working with each one of you.  Thank you!

March 17-March 21

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!  Please note that report cards go home on Thursday.  This week we are going to continue our study of linear equations.  I am hoping to have a quiz on Thursday over section 12-1 and 12-2, which will be covered in class today.

As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

We are now in the home stretch.  Because the majority of the CRCT is algebra I am going to skip around in the units and we are going to begin Unit 5.  Attached is the parent letter.

February 25 - 29 2008

This week our focus is going to be on mastering solving multi-step equations (section 11-2) and we are going to begin working on solving equations with variables on both sides (section 11-3).  There will be a test on Friday covering solving single step equations, simplyfying algebraic expressions (11-1), and solving multi-step equations.  Please remember this will be our first test of this nine weeks so this may cause the grade to fluctuate.  I am planning on having a few more tests in the upcoming weeks to help that.

Please note that in order to be successful, your student needs to be here ready to work and need to be doing their homework nightly.  Also, morning tutoring is no longer occuring.

Please

February 11-15

Happy Valentine's Day!  This week we are going to be working on solving two step equations with a quiz on Wednesday on this concept.  This is from Chapter 2 lesson 8.  We will then move onto Chapter 11 and will be covering sections 1-5.  I anticipate that we will have a test mid week next week, but I will let you know the exact date.  Please remember there are several important dates coming up.

January 28 - February 1

This week we started working on inequalities.  We will continue working on this for the remainder of the week.

January 16, 2008

January 14-18th.

Happy New Year!  I am sorry for not updating my blog sooner.  This week our focus has been on solving equations by using adding and subtracting.  There will be a quiz on Fri over equations including all four operations. For the remainder of this week we will be working on solving equations using multiplication and division, reviewing for the quiz and will begin inequalities.

Important dates:  Next week is conference week so there will be early dismissal from Tuesday the 22nd to Monday the 28th.

Please be sure to return the conference form to the correct teacher.

Monday the 21st is a student holiday.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch with me.

December 10-14, 2007

We finished Unit 2 up on Friday and are now going to start working on unit 3.  This unit focuses on linear equations and inequalities.  I am attaching the parent letter.  Please know that I am going to have to go back and review a few lessons before we move onto what is actually covered in the letter.  Today we worked on simple variables and expressions. This week our focus is going to be on reviewing order of operations, solving one step equations and absolute value.  This will give us a nice background for what we are going to be working on.

December 3-7

Hello.  I'm sorry I have been so uncommunacative lately.  I've been sick and have had some family issues, but all is well now.  We are going to be reviewing the following sections this week 4-5 (squares and square roots), 4-7 (real numbers), 4-8 (pythagorean theorm).  There will be a test over these three sections on Thursday.  We will spend a little bit of time each day in class reviewing the concepts.  Our next unit is on equations.  Attached is the parent letter.  I may have to go back and teach concepts that are not listed to ensure that the kids will be successful.  Thank you!  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.
