8th Language Arts

Week of September 8-12, 2008
This week we are working on VERBS!!  That's right.  We will be reviewing the importance of identifying verbs in a sentence and actually identifying transitive verbs.  Remember, they are nothing more than verbs that have a direct object (where is the action going to?)

(trans.vb.) (d.o.)
example:  Mrs. Desvernine
flipped pancakes during the breakfast meeting.
Tues. night's homework is page 13 and 14 in your grammar workbook.

We are also getting ready to write our first 5 paragraph essay.  Students should be closing in on who they will write their memoir on.  This is an adult who has had an influence of them.  Think about relatives, family friends, people such as dance teachers, coaches, your vet., Dr., or other person that left a strong memory on your life.  We have worked on anecdotes, quotations, imagry, and sensory wordsLet's get ready to really focus on some great writing this week!

GA Studies

Week of Sept. 8-12,2008

Hello everyone,
This week we are completing study on the "Beginnings of Georgia".  We have been busy making our own artifact (thank you for all that brought in clay pots), and we have been busily studying the 4 native American periods and vocabulary.  Our test is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 11th.
Attached,(see at the bottom of this post) please find a great study guide to use to help you prepare for this test.  I guarantee that by studying a little each night, you will be prepared to "ace" the test.  It's all about preparation.
Have a great week, and remember:
Be prepared to do your best.....you deserve it!

Welcome August, 2008

Hello!
Welcome back to Simpson.  I am anxious to begin the year and am looking forward to meeting all our new eighth grade students.
If you do not already know me, I am in my 7th year at Simpson and 17th year in Cobb County.  All of these years have been spent teaching special education in the middle school.
This year I have the privilege of working in 8th grade with Laura Grace/ Language Arts, Mrs. Levin/ Social Studies, and Elizabeth Crumpton/ Social Studies.
While I am not listed on the roster as the teacher of record, please be assured that I am working in the general education classroom co-teaching 3 Language Arts classes and collaborating or co-teaching 2 Social Studies classes.  Please refer to the teacher blogs of Mrs. Grace, Mrs. Levin, and Mrs. Crumpton for more information.
I look forward to seeing each of you at open house next Tuesday, August 26th at 7pm.
Please feel free to introduce yourself and spend a few minutes getting comfortable in 8th grade.
