Conference Week Computer Activities

  1. Wordle- Directions

Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.

  • Go to Wordle.net
  • Click on “Create.”
  • Type in words or copy and paste words in the “Paste in a bunch of Text.”  Use a space to separate words.  If you want to keep words together (i.e. I love you.)  You will need to use the tilde between each word (i.e. I~love~you).  The size of a word in the visualization is proportional to the number of times the word appears in the input text.  So if you type a particular word in multiple times, it will be larger than the other words.
  • Click “Go” button.
  • You can make changes.
  • Language: This will change the case
  • Font:  This will change the type
  • Layout: This will change the horizontal and vertical format.
  • Color:  This will change the font and background color
  • Randomize (on the bottom) will change any of the above actions.
