Last post of the year

Our school year is almost over.  What a good year it has been for us.  Thank you for sharing your child with me. I have enjoyed getting to know them and spending time with  them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and I'll see you in the fall.

Personal Finance

SS6E4 The student will explain personal money management choices in terms of income, spending, credit, saving, and investment.

We have started our personal finance unit.  We began the unit with the Millionaire Game. Studnets had difficulty identifying behaviors they thought millionaires would show.  It was a fun way to learn the truth about millionaires.

One of the concepts we are trying to help our 6th graders learn is the beauty of compounded interest with systematic saving.  Ask your student about the rule of 72.

The 6th grade teachers would like to thank the National Council on Economics Education for providing their wonderful publications for use in our classrooms.

April 30, 2008

We are finishing up Chapter 25 in Social Studies and will have a test on Monday, May 5, 2008.  The students need to study for this test using the Reading Study Guide and notes from class. There is no homework except to study for the test.

April 23, 2008

The 4 1/2 weeks ends today.  All progress reports will go home on April 30.

In both RCICA and Social Studies we are working on Australia this week.  There will be very little if any homework during CRCT (April 23-29).

Encourage your student to get a good nights rest, eat breakfast and BE ON TIME FOR SCHOOL each day during the CRCT process.

April 18, 2008

As you all know CRCTs are next week.  The students need to be at school on time each day, need to get a good night's sleep and they need to eat breadfast before coming to school.

Social Studies students have a test on Chapter 5 on Monday, April 21, 2008.  The terms and names they need to know and understand are Pierre Trudeau, multiculturalism, bilingual, exports, industry, separatists, refugees, First Nations, transportation corridors, transportation barriers, Parliament, and constitutional monarchy.  Study this weekend for this test.  Also, the notebook on Canada will be turned in on Monday for a notebook grade.

April 14, 2008

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the week off from school.

We have started our unit on Canada.  We read and took notes on Chap. 5 Section 1 today and will discuss this tomorrow.  We will then move on the the other sections in this unit.  The Chap. 5 test will be on Monday, April 21.
