Hhhhhyhhhhh Language Arts- We just completed our last day of in-class writing. Most of you were able to conference with me and we discussed your thesis and topic sentences. Remember your paper must not use any personal pronouns or "you, your, yourself, ect."

On Friday these papers are due, TYPED. Along with your TYPED papers, I will collect your index cards and organizational outlines. On FRIDAY 5/9/08

Use your MLA worksheets if you have any questions regarding citations and if you need further help with your ideas you can email me up to eight o'clock every night (a.garcia.1218@gmail.com)

Tomorrow we begin reading "Tuck Everlasting". Remember to come in QUIETLY to class, prepared for your warm-up. The year is almost over and we want to finish pleasantly I am sure.

5/6/08 Tuesday

Man_w_notepad We are in the middle of this research paper. While I do see that most of you are using your time wisely in class, and asking any questions if you need to, those of you who are not need to remember that this paper is due Friday, typed.

Some have expressed that they are having a hard time coming up with topic sentences. After you have decided on a thesis the topics can be details from the thesis that are restated. I will help you come up with these tomorrow in class. Do not worry you are all doing a great job so far.

No homework tonight.

RCICA- We read our play without an ending today and paired up in groups. Tomorrow you wil be rewuired to come up with your own ending following the guidelines.

5/5/08 Monday

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone...

Language Arts- Today we began outlining and organizing information. By doing so we also began to solidify our thesis statements. Tomorrow we will continue to write in class. If, upon your writing, you discovered you can use more research, please feel free to do so tonight. Although you have no homework, there is a good chance that tomorrow you may be presented with a "pop" quiz on your research writing standards upon entering class. Just warning you.

RCICA- Today we read silently and answered critical thinking questions. Tomorrow we will begin to read our play of the week.

5/1/08 Thursday

Language Arts- We went over note taking, outlining and classifying information today. Tomorrow we will venture into the library in order to complete our note cards on our second source (books, periodicals...).

Due to the fact that you will ONLY be able to use your note cards when you are writing on Monday-Wednesday I highly suggest that you are meticulous about the way you complete these. Tonight you should be wrapping up your  Internet source cards.

On Monday you will begin by outlining your information. Because we are writing a four paragraph paper (no more) you will have to be more concise with your outline. I have an example of this in class and we will review it tomorrow. E-mail me if you have any questions.

RCICA---depending on behavior...we may have a surprise for silent reading

if***** you found it! you can read this then you may write one paragraph, on anything you want, and turn it in for extra credit. Remember to use appropriate vocabulary and grammar!!!!!!!

Somewhere on this page is a hidden extra credit message. If you can find it...you get the points. Good luck. Be creative

4/30/08 Wednesday

Language Arts- We got our research topics today and although they may seem vague, that is the part of the challenge. It wouldn't be a new objective if it were easy. I, your teacher, believe in you, and if you have any questions please feel free to come and speak to me, I promise I will clarify any question you may have.

We will review outlining tomorrow. Tonight just focus on narrowing your ideas into a thesis.

RCICA- We will finish reading our stories tomorrow.

4/29/08 Tuesday

Well guys, congratulations, you did it, CRCT's are over.

We only have a little left but are going to finish strong in here. The school year will end with an expository research paper and a book.We reviewed  a research paper and  an expository paper yesterday and today we went over works cited, bibliographyand organizational methods for your notecards. Homework tomorrow and Thursday night will be researching with your first source and Friday we will spend the day at the library taking care of our second source. Remember the importance of your notecards (you should be purchasing those tonight and tomorrow). Even though we are writing these in class next Monday and Tuesday the ultimate responsibility of typing it and making sure it is up to rubric standards, is your own. I will show you a model of an appropriate research paper tomorrow to set you u accordingly.

RCICA- We began our stories today and will finish tomorrow with comprehension questions

April 24, 2008

4/23/08 Thursday

You have all done very well behaving and cooperating with the CRCT instruction. Continue the good work. :)

Language Arts- We began learning about a new type of poem (haiku) today. As soon as we complete the packet I will take you outside (perhaps tomorrow). This will serve as your inspiration, so that you may create a nature-inspired haiku of your very own. We will display these upon the end of our CRCT's all over the classroom so that I am no longer the only one impressed with your ability to write ;)

In regards to the words that we "discovered" today with our word play. I have a great desire for some of these to become commonplace in your everyday vocabulary. This being the case I am offering an extra credit vocabulary challenge. You must utilize at least ten of the words in sentences (simple ones are not an option of course) of your own.

Here are a list of words that WON'T win over my admiration, or extra credit:

eduCATE, lubriCATE, communiCATE

the rest...is up to you

RCICA- We completed our story Romance of a Broker , and began completing the response questions. We will finsh this tomorrow and then read silently.
