week of March 23rd:
LANG. ARTS: This week we will continue with our study of adjective and adverb clauses and independent clauses.  We will also review benchmark items for our warm-ups as well. You should have brought your blank job application as we continue examining work place documents as part of our technical writing unit. Expect an assessment over subordinate clauses on Wednesday.
 
GEORGIA STUDIES: We will complete section 4 this week and begin section 5 (WWI). We will also view and take notes on some films documenting this era.
You should review the chapter vocab. and class notes daily.  Test over Ch 10 will be Thursday.

WEEK OF MARCH 9TH

LANGUAGE ARTS: THIS WEEK WE WILL BE TAKING A BENCHMARK TEST AND BEGINNING REVIEW FOR THE CRCT AS WELL.  THERE WILL BE A QUIZ OVER ADJECTIVE AND ADVERB PHRASES AND APPOSITIVE PHRASES ON TUES. WE WILL BEGIN CLAUSES ON WEDNESDAY.  BRING IN A BLANK JOB APPLICATION IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO. WE WILL BE USING THESE AS WE WORK ON OUR TECHNICAL WRITING / WRITING IN THE WORKPLACE UNITS.

GEORGIA HISORY: CHAPTER 10, THE PROGRESSIVIE ERA.  YOUR VOCABULARY PROJECT IS DUE WEDNESDAY OF THIS WEEK. ALSO, BE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR GRAPHIC ORGANIZER, GUIDED READINGS, AND NOTES FROM CLASS TO BEGIN PREPARRION FOR THE TEST.  WE WILL BE TAKING OUR BENCHMARK TEST FOR THIS CLASS NEXT WEEK. PLEASE KEEP UP WITH CHAPTER READING IF YOU ARE ABSENT.

Week of March 2nd

Language Arts:
 We will have a brief quiz over "Flowers for Algernon" on Tues. Your reading response journal with 33 entries will also be collected then.
We will continue to view and critique the film this week.
Worksheet over adjective and adverb phrases should be completed as a review before phrases quiz on Wed.  This will include adjectives and adverbs (notes from board) and appositive phrases as well. Review textbook exercises and information as you prepare.(pp. 432-436)  We will begin clauses later this week.
Georgia History:
This week we will begin Ch. 10, The Progressive Movement.  Section 1 vocab should be completed.  We will complete section 1 and begin section 2 on Tues.  Notes will be given in class daily and should be kept for future reference. Expect a quiz at the end of section 2.
We will complete the Guided Reading for the 1st 3 sections and view a film from "Georgia Stories" on the Progressive Movement in Georgia on Fri.

WEEK OF FEB. 23RD

LANG. ARTS:

THIS WEEK WE WILL CONTINUE OUR STUDY OF PHRASES WITH APPOSITIVE PHRASES. WE WILL ALSO CONTINUE READING AND ANALYZING "FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON".  PLEASE KEEP UP WITH YOUR REPONSE JOURNAL ENTRIES EACH DAY. YOU SHOULD CHECK THE BOARD NOTEBOOK IF YOU MISS A DAY.  ON TUES. WE WILL GO TO THE COMPUTER LAB TO TAKE A MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES TEST.

Week of Feb. 17th:
Language Arts
We will continue "Flowers for Algernon" this week and our study of adjective and adverb phrases as well.  You should continue to bring your W&G text and workbook to class every day.  Also, remember to keep up with your response journal entries EACH day.  If you are absent, the reading we covered and required number of entries are in a notebook on the white board tray at the front of the room
Georgia History
Civil War newspaper projects are due Wed.
We have finished sections 1 and 2 of Reconstruction.  Go over the notes, vocabulary, and reading daily.  We will complete Guided Reading and Chapter review on Wed. and Thurs.The vocabulary is especially important.  We will have CH 9 test next Tues.

Week of Feb. 9th

Language Arts: Test over Ch 14 and Ch 21 (Nouns and Pronouns) will be Wed.
We will begin a major lit. unit on Tuesday after we review for the test.  Please continue to bring W. & G. text and workbook to class daily as we will continue grammar lessons as well.

Georgia History: Ch 8 Test will be Tuesday.  We will begin Ch 9, Reconstruction, on Wed.
Reminders:
 News article is due Wed., Feb. 11th.  Many of you have already turned this in.  If not, be sure you turn it in on Wed.
Civil War Newspaper project is due next Wed., Feb. 18th.  Your rubric should be turned in with your project.

STATE WRITING ASSESSMENT FOR 8TH GRADE IS WED., JAN. 21ST!!!!!!

Week of Jan. 12
- 16th
Language Arts:  This week we will continue with our study of expository writing, reviewing revisions techniques, and preparing for the state writing assessment.  On Wednesday and Thursday, we will take a "mock" writing assessment which will simulate the state assessment (timing, process, etc.) Remember to bring blue and black ink pens on those days. This piece will also serve as your expository essay. 

Social Studies

We are taking class notes and discussing Ch 7, the Antebellum period.  We hope to finish Section 4 this week and complete the Guided Reading as a review.  News Article is due on Wednesday. Review your class notes daily. Also, review the vocabulary from each section.

8TH GRADE STATE WRITING ASSESSMENT IS JANUARY 21ST! **

WEEK OF JAN. 6TH - JAN. 9TH
LANGUAGE ARTS:
This week we will examine components of the expository essay as we prepare for the state writing assessment. Student models and textbook examples will be analyzed and discussed in class. Additionally, we will learn and review several sentence revision strategies to enhance the quality of our writing.  Students, you should review the strategies and lists in your Writing Resource packets for a few minutes daily. 

GEORGIA HISTORY:
We have begun Ch 7, the Antebellum period.  We will be reading and discussing Sections 1, 2, and 3 this week.  Students should review class notes and vocabulary daily.

December 08, 2008

Week of Dec. 8th - 12th
Language Arts
We will finish hearing persuasive presentations this week and conduct our class spelling bees.
In addition, we will continue with our Classical Roots vocabulary, Lesson 2, and our study of subject complements (predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives).

Georgia History
Continuing with our study of state government, we will have a quiz over sections 2 and 3 on Wednesday.  We will continue with reading and notes and should finish chapter 15 by the end of the week.

WEEK OF DEC.1ST - 5TH:
Language Arts
:  Essays are due on Tuesday. Be ready to read your final copy one day this week. I am securing a short presentation on some public speaking guidelines to help you prepare for this. You will have the opportunity to self-evaluate your essay from the rubric you were given.  This will NOT be your final grade, but should give you some insight. We are also continuing our study of subject complements, preciate nominatives  and predicate adjectives.  Your vocabulary activity is due on Wed. (Lesson 1 short fictional narrative. Most of you finished this before the break.)

Georgia History: We have begun Ch 15 study of Georgia's government.  Guided Reading assignment is due on Tuesday.  We will be taking section quizzes over this chapter, so review daily reading and activities often!  Section 1 quiz will be Thursday.
