I am so sorry that I have not posted for the last few weeks. I could not access my account and was having a lot of difficulty getting it reset. But, I'm back. We are in full CRCT review mode and will be reviewing up until the very last moment. The math CRCT is on Thursday so we have a little time before then. I will also be available in the morning and afternoon next week (times to be announced)
Mrs. G

Today we wrapped up with order of operations and continued onto Translating Between Math and English Expressions. Students were given a list of 25 words and phrases and asked to sort them into 5 categories: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and equals. We taped those down and will be using them in the next few weeks to write and solve equations. The CRCT is 30% algebra (this unit) so it is really important that the kids put forth their best effort! I will post a copy of the graphic organizer asap so if the kids need it for hw they can access it here...
.SIMPSON FAMILIES,
Mark your Calendar for February 20th, 6:30. You are invited to our 3rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner & Raffle Auction. Simpson teachers will be serving dinner and there will be lots of great auction items available. Thanks for supporting the Simpson Eagles Education Foundation!

We are still working on Order of Operations in math class. The kids will be using a graphic organizer to help them learn the steps to solve math problems with multiple operations correctly. The usual mneumonic device that we all learned in school is PEMDAS or Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, which means that you do the operations in order: Parentheses, Exponents, Mult/Div from left to right, then Add/Sub from left to right.
Happy New Year and welcome back!
We hit the ground running with Unit 4, One-step equations. You can view the standards for this unit: Unit 4 Standards .
We started with exponents today and will move on to Order of Operations tomorrow.
Exponents are in Chapter 1 Lesson 3 in the textbook if you need additional information.
Homework: 1-3 practice_a_idea 2-12 even only...
This week we are continuing with fraction operations. So far, we have reviewed adding and subtraction with both like and unlike denominators. We are moving into multiplying and dividing next...I am giving those who need it a multipication table and a multiples list. The more they see these basic facts, the more (hopefully) they will recall on the BIG ONE (CRCT).
We are working hard to get ready!
Just a heads up: we will be moving out of this unit and onto Unit 4 after the winter break. This unit involves solving one-step equations with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
We went on a Sunday paper shopping spree today!Students were "given" $100 to buy presents for 3 family members and friends. We didn't finish our shopping today, so we'll finish it tomorrow. If you want to look at the list, here it is... sunday_paper_shopping_spree.doc . We are going to go through decimal operations quite quickly so we get onto FUN FRACTIONS!!! We will start by naming fractions and finding equivalent fractions and then get into fraction operations. We will doing lots of cool hands on labs and activities so watch the blog for updates!
Thanks!
Today we completed ADD #22 and completed an activity that paired math with reading. Students had to use a short story to complete math and reading comprehension problems. The math part was on adding decimals and tonight's homework continues that practice. We will using the Sunday paper to further explore decimal operations tomorrow.
We used laptops today to review and practice ordering and comparing decimals. If your student needs extra practice or wants to go back to the sites they can go to Ikeepbookmarks.com. The username is Grimmke and the password is 1313.
