Steps for resolving a conflict
1. Stop and cool off.
2. Define the problem. (Use "I" statements)
a. Tell the other person what happened
b. Tell the other person how you feel.
3. Brainstorm solutions.
4. Choose a solution that is fair to both of you. (Compromise is the key!)
5. Make a plan. Decide how you will put it into action.
6. Agree to the plan.
A handshake is a good way to show that you agree.
Social skills must be practiced
A family dinner is a great place to practice social skills. The family who eats together, grows together.
Comprehension increases with practice
Students should be encouraged to read at least 15 minutes per day. Reluctant readers can be encouraged to read if a parent reads their selected text and discusses the text at the end of the reading period.
