May 19th

Here we are, the last week of school.  In some ways it seems to have been a long time coming, but in other ways I can't believe it is here already.  I hope that all of you have a fun and safe summer, but don't let your mind go completely to mush.  Just a couple of reminders:

Keep reading: Go ahead and knock out your summer reading assignments early in the summer, then find several books to read just for your own pleasure.  Perhaps you have a favorite author who has a new book that you haven't read yet.

Keep writing: Consider keeping a travel journal for everywhere you go. Whom do you meet?  What do you see? What do you feel? What can you imagine? Try to use good paragraph structure when you write. Perhaps you can try writing a poem to express your experiences.

HOMEWORK: Vocabulary List 8 homework is due tomorrow.  Study for tomorrow's poetry test (students have a study guide).

We are moving right along with our expository/research paper. Today students made source cards for three different sources and two note cards from one of the sources. Students now know to number each new source in sequential order, and to code that same source number onto every notecard for information from that particular source.

Fifth period expanded their guiding questions for the thesis statement. Here is the updated version:Download period_5.doc

Also, we will do Vocabualary List 8 next week, so if you have a busy week coming up, you may want to get a jump on the homework. The quiz will be Friday.

May 2nd

Homework: Make sure you have twenty 3x5 ruled index cards in class on Tuesday.

We finished our poetry unit today, and we will have a poetry test next week. If you were absent, you need to get a copy of one of the poems and the related questions to make up.

I will give out a study sheet on Monday, and the test will be on Wednesday.  The vast majority of the students now seem to be very comfortable with the poetry terms and with analyzing poems.
