Homework: None: ;)     However, if you have a school copy of The Giver at home, in your car, or in your locker, your homework is to bring it back to class tomorrow.

Today we held our classroom level spelling bee.  One student from each class will compete at the grade level.  Students who tied in today's written bee will have a spell-off tomorrow.

I have graded most of the projects for The Giver.  I should have the grades in before I go to bed on Thursday.

I will check reading logs and behavior cards tomorrow in class. 

Here is a picture of the great participation we had in finding Our Vocabulary Words in Action.  Students could find the words in their personal reading, textbooks, advertisements, television shows, parent conversations, etc.  I finally had to take the wall down because the sticky notes were beginning to fall like rain each night when heat was turned off.  GREAT JOB!

Homework: Remember that your The Giver project is due Friday.  Tomorrow is the last quiz for the Parts of Speech quiz.

Review for the 10 extra questions on tomorrow's quiz:

Adjectives modify nouns.  Adjectives answer Which one? What kind? How many? How much?

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.  Adverbs answer How? When? Where? To what extent?

Homework: The Giver project is due Friday.  Students have been given an assignment sheet, grading rubric, Venn Diagram form, and directions for making note cards. Students have time in class to work on the assignment, but they may also need to work at home.  This is a 200 point assignment. Assignments turned in late will lose 11 percent per day.  This is an important project- It should be very detailed and well-developed.

The last quiz for the parts of speech will be Wednesday.  We will reveiw the answers to today's quiz in class tomorrow as a review.  You will keep your highest grade from the three quizzes.  Try for a 100!

Check Writing and Grammar workbook pages 1-4.

Read The Giver to the end of Chapter 14 and analyze for plot, theme, characterization, and vocabulary.

Today we practiced proofreading sentences and making correction, then reviewed the parts of speech. Finally we read Chapter 12 in The Giver. 

We will begin quizzing for mastery of basic grammar skills.  Students will have multiple opportunities to retest with the goal being that all students make a 100%.  If at the end of an alloted time for each set of skills a student has still not obtained a 100%, he or she will receive the highest grade obtained.  Once a student acheives a 100%, he or she will be exempt from additional practice/quizzing until we begin a new set of skills.
