Week of 3/9 - 3/12

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

GIRLS TRACK UNIT AND BOYS BASKETBALL UNIT CONTINUE THIS WEEK.  THE WRITTEN TEST FOR THIS NINE WEEKS WILL BE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 10.  STUDY GUIDES WILL BE AVAILABLE. 


HEALTH 6TH GRADE GIRLS

OUR HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT UNIT CONTINUES THIS WEEK.  THE GIRLS WILL BE ASK TO DO 3 INTERVIEWS WITH YOU ON DIFFERENT TOPICS IN THEIR WORKBOOK.  THESE INTERVIEWS ARE DUE ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11.  THIS NINE WEEK GRADING PERIOD ENDS ON THURSDAY.  IT HAS BEEN A JOY TO HAVE YOUR DAUGHTER IN CLASS.

Week of 3/2 - 3/6

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

This week the girls begin the track unit.  Events include the high jump, hurdles, 50 yard dash, a long distance run and the 4 x 1/2 relay.  The boys will begin their basketball unit with drills and lead up games prior to the tournament.


HEALTH 6TH GRADE GIRLS

Monday and Tuesday the girls will be researching smoking or alcohol information in order to develop an anti drug advertisement for a teen magazine.  This advertisement will be due on Thursday, 3/5.

We will begin our human growth and development unit on Wednesday.  Choosing the Best Path Workbooks will be given out this week.  The girls will be asked to do parent interviews from the workbook on a variety of topics.  Please be looking for and asking your daughter about these interviews at the end of the week. 

The In Class Packet is due on Monday, March 9.

Week of 2/17 - 2/20

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

Fitness testing continues this week.  Tests will include shuttle run, crunches, push ups, sit and reach, vertical jump, long jump and pull ups.  Students will be recording their scores on a fitness sheet.  If they were tested in the fall they will be comparing those scores with their current scores. 


HEALTH 6TH GRADE GIRLS

We will be correcting our scavenger hunt sheets in preparation for the test on Wednesday, 2/18.  Study guides will be given out on Tuesday.  The nutrition test will cover nutrients, food groups and the food guide pyramid, reading food labels and the importance of eating a healthy diet and ways to improve on our diet.

Week of 2/2 - 2/6

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

Angleball unit begins this week.  This activity incorporates running, throwing, catching, agility, and teamwork in a very fast paced game. 

HEALTH 6TH GRADE GIRLS

Monday our nutrition unit begins with carousel brainstorming.  The girls will be compiling information on a specific nutrient, creating a poster and presenting their findings to the class.  Their homework assignment this week is to bring in a nutrition label from a food they like to eat.  This is due on Thursday, 2-5. 

Last week I sent home the Human Growth and Development permission letter.  If you have not seen this (it's purple) please ask your daughter about it.  It needs to be signed and returned as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Week of 1/26 - 1/30

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

Gymnastics will begin on Monday.  Students will be performing basic to intermediate tumbling stunts.


HEALTH GIRLS 6TH GRADE

This week our topics include stress and communicating our thoughts and feelings. Activities will include videos, alphabet summary, class and small group discussions and a stress management illustration. 

Since progress reports were printed prior to our first test and assignment check, I will print them for health and send them home on Wednesday.  Attached to them will be the Human Growth and Development permission letter.  Please read, sign and return the letter as soon as possible.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the Human Growth unit.

Week of 1/20 - 1/23

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

Speedball continues this week with the tournament.


HEALTH GIRLS  6TH GRADE

We will be discussing how to make responsible decisions and applying the steps to situations or problems.  Our first test will be Friday, January 23.  The girls will be given a completed study guide on Thursday.  We will also have a review activity.

Week of 1/12 - 1/16

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

The girls will complete their ping pong unit with a Queen of the Table Tournament.  Our next activity will be speedball, a fast pace game incorporating basketball skills, soccer skills and some football skills.  Our first pacer of the nine weeks will also happen this week.

 

HEALTH GIRLS  6TH

We have organized our health folders, put together our in-class packet and our journal.  This week's lessons will focus on self concept and it's importance to overall health.  We will be writing in our journals and engaging in small group discussions.

 

November 17, 2008

Week of 11/17 - 11/21

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

Flag football rules and scrimmage game will begin the week.  We will continue playing a round robin tournament through Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday will be screening 6th & 8th graders for scoliosis.  Seventh graders will continue game play.

HEALTH 6TH GRADE GIRLS

The girls will be watching a video showing and explaining the dangerous effects tobacco has on the body.  They will complete a concept map on these effects.  We will be discussing marijuana and its effects on the body.  Their Alcohol, Tobacco and Marijuana Project is due on Wednesday 11/19.  Thursday and Friday the PE/Health teachers will be screening 6th and 8th graders for scoliosis.  This girls will have the opportunity to work on their in class packets during this time.

Week of 11/10 - 11/14

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

New games continue this week with Bocce ball, Beat the Ball and 4-Square.

 

HEALTH 6TH GRADE GIRLS

The girls will complete their illustration of the nervous system on Monday.  We will go to the media center computer lab on Tuesday and Wednesday to research the effects of tobacco, alcohol and marijuana on the body.  We will also be looking for interesting facts on those topics.  This research will be used on their project for this unit.  The project will be due on Wednesday, 11/19, after all other class work and discussions are completed.  The girls will be given time in class to work on their project.  It can be taken home to complete.

Week of 10/20 - 10/24

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7TH & 8TH

Our paddleball unit continues this week.  Students will be choosing partners for tournament play.  Teams will participate in a scrimmage game to practice their strokes and play by game rules.  Court courtesies and good sportsmanship will be discussed.  The round robin tournament will begin on Wednesday. 

HEALTH GIRLS 6TH GRADE

On Monday, the Health Triangle Collage Project will be assigned, explained and started.  The girls will make a collage using pictures and words to represent the elements associated with each side of the triangle.  On the back of the rubric, they must also explain what element each picture/word represents.  This project is due on Thursday, Oct. 23. 

We will begin discussing and participating in activities related to the elements of Mental/Emotional Health.  Tuesday's topic is stress. Activity and discussion will include the effects of stress on the body and overall health and  how to manage and reduce stress.  Self concept and decision making will also be topics we will explore this week.
