WHAT'S UP!:

We have placed the Faux Stained Glass projects by 8th graders in the windows of the room. These always look just magical with the light coming through the colors and are one of the favorites of everyone who comes in the room.

Even though the year is almost over, we are putting up lots of cool projects.  The atrium case has 6th grade pinch pots, sneakers, and little fish made of clay.

On our hall we are displaying 7th grade shirts & ties projects and 6th grade square designs based on sneakers.

In the room we have more of the 6th grade designs like those in the hall and some sqaure designs by 8th grade as well.

In the waiting room next to the PPO office we have some of the best of the 7th grade shirt/tie projects.

Also, in the atrium Matt Bassett and Thomas Farmery are trying to finish up our honor roll eagle that will be painted in blue lines on one of the sections of wall.  We 'gotta' get it done before school gets out!

RETIREMENT!

Dear Parents: As many of you may know, I am retiring at the end of the year.  Thirty years of teaching middle school art has brought me joy beyond measure!  I have literally taught thousands of boys and girls and take so many fond memories of Simpson (7 years) and East Cobb (23 years) with me.  I hope that each of you feel that I have made a difference in your child's perception of the role of art in his or her life and the world around them.  I will miss kids terribly and my colleagues too.  I plan to keep my hand in teaching though by conductiong small group classes whenever possible at different art centers in Cobb County.  I look forward to spending more time with my grandchildren, doing my own drawing and quilting and lots of trips!  Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with your wonderful children!LOVE, Ms. Park

6TH GRADE ACTIVITIES:

The 6th grade students have just finished making clay projects.  They had a choice of making a sneaker, fish or pinch pot.  We will be painting the underglaze colors on these right after spring break.  Then, once they are fired we will do the clear glaze and fire them again.  Look for many of them to be displayed sometime in May in the atrium display case!

7th GRADE ACTIVITIES:

Our 7th graders have just finished doing their round weavings.  Most of them will be on buletin boards in the art room.  A few of them will be in the art show!

8TH GRADE ACTIVITIES:

Our 8th graders have just completed clear glazing on their clay desserts and masks.  Look for many of these to appear in the atrium display case after spring break!

Next they will be doing the ever-popular Faux Stained Glass assignment using tissue and black construction paper.

WHAT'S UP!

On the Monday after spring break we will be putting some great clay desserts and masks in the atrium display case.  Towards the end of that week we'll add some other items from earlier in the year.  That total case display will be considered part of the big art show.

THE ART SHOW IS MONDAY NIGHT THE 21ST!!  I HOPE EVERYONE WILL COME TO SEE THE OVER 400 ITEMS WHICH WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE COVERED PLAY AREA, UP AND DOWN THAT HALL AND IN THE ATRIUM CASE.

In the art room we are displaying round weavings by our 7th graders.  We also just put up dozens of take offs on the famous American painting "American Gothic."

WHAT'S UP!:

In the atrium we have sixth grade work from the previous nine weeks kids.  These are collages of cityscapes and country scenes.  The 6th graders we have now will do these also.

Also in the atrium: the case has ceramic pottery, sculpture and jewelry collected by Ms. Park over the years.  This display is meant to show the kids the wide variety of things made from clay.  It is also hoped that seeing this will help inspire kids to start collecting at an early age themselves.

We are in the process of putting up giant oil pastel sneakers done by our new 6th graders.  These will be displayed in our room, on our hall and in the PPO waiting room area.

8TH GRADE ACTIVITIES:

The 8th graders have completed their sketchbook covers and begun their square designs.  The designs will wind up as on-going projects to work on whenever they are between assignments. (finished with something others are still working on) Next week we will do our clay work.  The kids will have a choice of doing clay desserts or masks.

7TH GRADE ACTIVITIES:

The new 7th grade classes have been doing their sketchbook covers in bold black and white with Central American and Native American tribal motifs for their inspiration.

6TH GRADE ACTIVITIES:

Our new 6th grade classes are off to a roaring start! They have already completed their sketchbook covers with a sneaker theme.  They are now working on giant sneakers done in bright oil pastels. These will be shown in our room, hall and PPO waiting area.  They will also be displayed on the P.E. hall leading to the art show in April.  Be sure to come see them.
