Week of May 19

I can't believe it is the last week of school.  It's been a great year.  Have a Great Summer!

Reading:  We will finish reading the novel this week.  There will be a test on the book on Wednesday.

Earth Science:  We will compare and contrast comets, asteroids and meteors Monday, review for the test Tuesday, and have the test on the Solar System on Wednesday.

Language Arts: The students will receive their Summer Reading Assignment Monday in class.  They are responsible to read and book and complete the assignment before the first day of school in August.  They will also sign a form stating they have received the information. They will edit and revise their research papers and type the works cited page Monday.  Tuesday and Wednesday they will be able to prepare and type their final copy in class.  The paper is due on Thursday.

Week of May 12

Reading: We will have the final Vocabulary list this week.  The words will come from chapters 7-11 in the book.  We will continue reading and answering comprehension questions.  There will be a test next week covering as much of the book as we can finish.

Earth Science:  We will spend this week studying the Solar System.  We will look at all the features of the planets and compare them to earth.  Toward the end of the week will be compare comets, meteors and asteroids. The final test of the year will be next Wednesday, the 21st. covering the planets, comets, meteors and asteroids. 

Language Arts:  They will spend this week writing the rough draft of their research paper.  The rough draft will be due Friday.  The final paper will be due next Thursday, the 22nd.

Week of May 5

Reading:  We are into our novel study.  This week we will cover Chapters 5-11.  There will be a vocabulary test and comprehension questions.  Next week there will be a test on the first half of the book.

Earth Science:  We will begin studying the planets of our solar system this week.  We will do a web trek, and many activities comparing and contrasting the planets.

Language Arts:  They are narrowing the topic for their research paper and beginning their research.  We will go to the media center two days this week to find book sources.  They will also spend some time on the Internet doing research.  Their note cards will be due Friday for a grade.

April 28, 2008

Week of April 28

Reading:  We are beginning new novel study on the book, Girls Get Even.  This week we will do vocabulary and comprehension questions for chapters 1-3.  We will also look at characterization of the main characters.

Earth Science:  We will review this week and will have a test Friday on Seasons, day/night, eclipses and moon phases.

Language Arts:  We will spend the rest of the year writing a research paper.  This week they will chose a topic and learn about different types of resources they can use to research their topics.

Week of April 21

CRCT testing starts Wednesday!!!

Reading:  We will continue to review for the CRCT for the first part of the week.   Classes will be shortened all week.  We will go back to the extreme stores series.

Earth Science:  We will study solar and lunar eclipses.  We will also work on some CRCT reveiw.  Classes will be shortened during testing.

Language Arts:  There is a test Tuesday on Misplaced Modifiers.  I will introduce the research process in preparation for their research paper which they will begin after testing.

April 14, 2008

Week of April 14

Reading:  We will spend this week on CRCT preparations.  We will go over test taking strategies and do some practice tests in all content areas.

Earth Science:  This week we will review the motions of the earth, and the reasons for days, nights and seasons.  There will be a quiz Tuesday on this.  We will then move on to the phases of the moon and eclipses.

Language Arts:  We will be learning about misplaced and dangling modifiers.  They will learn how to identify them and how to correct them.

Week of March 31

Reading:  We will begin a new story this week with a new vocabulary list.  There will be a vocabulary test Friday.

Earth Science:  We are beginning out study of space and the solar system.  We will look at how the motions of the earth and moon impact our lives.

Physical Science:  There will be a test later this week.  Here are notes to start studying.Download electricity_notes.doc

Language Arts: We began reading "The Diary of Anne Frank" last week and will continue this week.  There will be a drama production of the play on Thursday.  In grammar, we are working with adjective and adverb phrases.  There will be a test Friday on this.

Week of March 24

Life Science:  Test Tuesday on evolution.  Go over all warm up questions and worksheet questions.  Here are some notes to help you with those questions. Download evolution_study_guide.doc

Reading: We will read a new story with new vocabulary.  Vocabulary Test on Friday.

Earth Science:  We will begin storms this week, focusing on Tornadoes, Hurricanes and Thunderstorms.  There will be a project assigned that will be due next Monday, March 31. The project is to create a brochure on one of the types of storms we are learning about this week.  Here is a template they can use to create the brochure.Download Publication1.pub

Language Arts:  We will focus on grammar this week in preparation for the CRCT.  There will be a test on direct and indirect objects on Wednesday.

Week of March 17

Reading:  We are going back to reading short stories, one a week and doing reading exercises from the stories.  We will also do a vocabulary list and test each week.

Earth Science:  We are looking at air masses and fronts and how they affect weather.  We will also study storms.  Toward the end of the week they will get their next project assignment which will involve creating a brochure on a type of storm.

Language Arts:  We will focus this week on grammar and begin to learn how to do simple sentence diagraming.  We will look at indirect objects.
