miercoles, el 6 de mayo

Hola,

Today we continued our cultural tour of the food, meals, and meal patterns of Spain.  We're almost done with our tour!

First, we'll begin by discussing the typical meals, times, and foods of the area.  Then, we'll look at the history of food, examining the major historical groups who affected modern food and cooking in the region.  Lastly, students will learn 10 "quintessential" foods and drinks of the area, including their ingredients and how their made.   The goals for this section are for students to understand the affects of geography, history, and culture on food, meals, and eating; to identify some "classic" dishes of a region, and understand the origins of the dish and the practical reasons for its popularity; for students to get a taste of anthropology and the anthropology of food; and for students to see how language, culture and history are connected.  This is one of my favorite lessons!

Students will be taking notes during our discussions and should keep those notes for our open-notes quiz on Friday, May 8th.  NOTE: The quiz dates changed due to the various schedule differences for the classes.

Hola,

We finally get back to fulltime Spanish!  Yay!  Today we began our cultural studies of food, meals, and meal patterns in the Spanish-speaking world.  I have divided the Spanish-speaking countries into 4 groups:  Mexico and Central American, the Caribbean, Argentina and South America, and Spain.  We'll be taking a cultural tour of the food, meals, and meal pattetrns of these four areas.
