Personal Finance Vocabulary Quiz 2

 

1. Short-term goals: goals you plan to achieve in fewer than two months

 

2. Medium-term goals: goals you plan to achieve in two months to three years

 

3. Long-term goals: goals you plan to achieve in more than three years

 

4. Scarcity: the economic problem that exists because of unlimited wants and limited resources

 

5. Saving: the act of putting something aside for later use

 

6. Investing: saving money in order to earn financial return

 

7. Interest rate risk:  the risk that interest rates will rise while you have your income locked into a lower interest rate investment

 

8. Inflation risk: the risk that the rate of inflation will exceed the interest rate you are earning on an investment

 

9. Risk of loss: the risk that the value of your investment will decrease

Know these important terms.

  1. Opportunity

    Cost: The next best alternative that is given up when a choice is made.

  1. Incentive:  A reason or reward that motivates people to behave in a predictable way.

  1. Consequence:  The result or effect of a person’s behavior and/or choices.

  1. Income*:  money earned during a specified period ($10 per hour or $50,000 per year)

  1. Human Capital*:  Knowledge, skills and experiences that make a worker more productive.

  1. Trade Off*:  An exchange of one benefit for another.

  1. Wages:  Income earned from working 

 

 

 

 

Personal Finance Terms

Look up and read about the following financial topics in the Economics Handbook (R24).  Write 4 facts about each.

  1. Income:  Money that a person receives in exchange for work or from the use of property.

  1. Credit:  A way of borrowing money to buy something now and pay for it later.

  1. Saving:  Putting money in a safe place and not spending all you have.  A savings account at a bank or credit union will pay you interest on the money in your savings account.

  1. Investing:  Using a part of your income in a way that allows for making more money in the future.

  1. Human Capital:  Knowledge, skills, and experiences that make a worker more productive.

We have an Australia map test this Thursday.  It will be over the states, territories, capitals and physical features. 


We will also have an Australia end of unit test next Tuesday, May 5th.  Students will be given a study guide later on this week.  They should begin to look over their notes on Australia.


Students have been encouraged to go to Mrs. Barnes's  Blog to get copies of the readings on Australia which we have used in class.

You may begin to bring in the textbooks which you have at home.  Our final unit is on personal finance and will not require that you need the text at home.

Today students worked to make a brochure explaining the different governments of Mexico, Cuba and Brazil.  They will be using the brochure and their notes during the test tomorrow as well as their 15-star choiceboard.

Today we discussed the governments of Cuba, Mexico and Brazil. All classes except 4th were able to  make any needed corrections.  4th will make corrections on Monday.  Please put these charts and notes in the political systems section of your notebook.

Your test on Tuesday will be over the information in the 15-star choiceboard and these notes and chart.  You will be able to use the choiceboard activities and the notes and chart to answer the questions on the test.

 

There are still several students who have not completed the choiceboard yet.  If you do not complete it by Tuesday you will not have the information to help you on the test.

I will be here Monday morning if you need to come in.

Have a nice weekend.  It is suppose to be beautiful!

The test over the liberators, Cuban Revolution and Zapatista's has been moved to next Tuesday. Today, however is the last day to work on it in class.  We have had a lot of kids out.  Remember Mrs. Earle and I will be here in the mornings if you need to come in.
