Week of May 19, 2008

LIFE SCIENCE-- We made it!! We are finally here at the last week of school.  Thanks for a fantastic year!

Look to see what we have going on this week:

Monday--Review for Human Body Test, turn in text books

Tuesday--Human Body Test

Weds.--Mulch and Munch  Weather permitting we will be helping the Environmental Club spread some mulch.  This will significantly help the plants this summer during the drought.  Please bring a small snack to eat as well as any work gloves that you can use.   PLease lable any items you bring.  Make sure you wear appropriate shoes and clothing.

Today is our locker clean out.

Thurs.--Today is our Honors Assembly.  You will not have access to your locker today or Friday.

Friday--Last day of school activities.

Week of May 12, 2008

LIFE SCIENCE--My goodness how time flies when you're having fun!!! And that is just what we've done this year--have fun and learn a lot!

This week we will finish the Human Body by taking a look at the Endocrine and Immune Systems.

HW--Make sure your human body systems chart in your "Organ-izer" (Thanks, R.J.!) is complete. I will check it for completion for a HW grade on Friday.

Weds-Thurs. Read pages 592-616 in your text.

We will have an open "Organ-izer" test over the human body on Tuesday, May 20. You need to spend time at home this week making sure your book is in order. Books will be turned in on the 20th with your test.

RCICA--We are continuing Fantastic Voyage.  Packets are due Mon., May 19 and we will have our test on that day as well.  Bring in permission slip/packet agreement form ASAP.

Week of May 5, 2008

LIFE SCIENCE--We will continue our study of the human body with Skin and the Nervous system. Please check back daily for homework updates.

Tues.--Science Snacks will be collected.

We are totally out of Kleenex.  If you can bring in a box or two to get us through the next couple of weeks that would be great.  I know all our sniffling allergy sufferers will be grateful as well.

RCICA--We are continuing our novel study of Fantastic Voyage.  Your packet needs to be completed by Mon., May 19. We will also have a test over FV that day.

Be sure to return your movie permission slip/packet agreement on Thurs., May 8.

LIFE SCIENCE--This week we will continue our study of the human body. We will have a quiz Weds. over the circulatory system.  See powerpoint here: Download the_circulatory_systemppt.ppt Please check back daily for HW updates.

Weds. HW Label the human skeleton in you Body Book using only the bones labeled on page 481 in your text--there are 20 bones to label.

RCICA--We are continuing our Greek and Latin Flip Books as well as our Fantastic Voyage unit.  Please keep up with the pacing guide for the novel.

LIFE SCIENCE:  Welcome back! I hope you are all rested and ready to take on the last 6 weeks of school!

This week will will continue the study of the Human Body.  Please come prepared to class each day with your text book, human body book, pencils, colored pencils and pens.

HW:

Monday: complete the respiratory system chart in your Human Body book

Tuesday: Study for your quiz over the excretory and respiratory systems. Identify the 4 respiratory diseases in your Human Body Book.

Check back daily for HW updates.

RCICA:  We will continue with our Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes unit. You will have a roots quiz on Tuesday.

We will begin our Fantastic Voyage unit this week. Here are the character analysis and sources of tension templates for you to download and print.

LIFE SCIENCE-- Wow! One week before Spring Break! Its going to be a busy one as we continue with our study of the Human Body.  This week we will be covering the digestive, excretory and respiratory systems.

HW--

Watch CRCT review videos.

We will have a quiz over digestion Weds.

Be sure to have a pencil; red, blue and black pen; and red and blue colored pencil EVERYDAY in class!

Monday:  have the CRCT pink slip signed and returned. Color and label the digestive system in your Human Body Book. Make sure you bring the book back each day you take it home!!

Tuesday: Complete digestion vocabulary and study for your quiz. See download link above.

Weds.: Excretory system homework as assigned in class.

Thursday: Study for your quiz. We will have a quiz over the excretory system on Friday.

Friday:  HAVE A FUN AND SAFE SPRING BREAK!

RCICA--we will begin work on our Greek and Latin Vocabulary Flip books.  Be sure to have a red, blue and black pen in class each day for this project.

LIFE SCIENCE--Today we finished our unit on evolution.  We will have our test tomorrow (Tuesday.)

We will take a Notebook Check Tuesday, possibly Weds., and Science Snacks will be collected Tuesday.

On Weds., we will begin our unit on the human body.  Check back daily for homework assignments.

LIFE SCIENCE--Happy St. Patrick's Day! Ok...enough of the green type. This week will be very busy as we continue to move through our study of Evolution. Don't forget to go to the following links and print/copy the notes from our PBS video organizer as well as the Evidence for Evolution notes that we took in class on Friday.

If you have computer problems at home, you may come to my class prior to Home room and use the PC to print the notes, but you really need to take care of this at home if at all possible.
HW--Tuesday--Finish your lab question if you did not ifnish them in class.

Thurs.--Complete at least questions 1-4 on your study guide.

Fri.-Download this Power point presentatioDownload natural_selectionppt.ppt , finish your study guide and continue studying. Here is the study guide: Download studyguide.doc

There is also a notebook check on Tuesday, and I will collect Science Snacks Tuesday as well.

We are scheduled to take a quiz Weds., and our Ch. 5 test on evolution will be Tuesday, March 25.

RCICA--A warm welcome to my new RCICA class!  We will be going over class procedures this week, but be sure that you have all materials daily.  Things that you will need are your RCICA journal, red, blue and black pens, orange highlighter and a book to read daily.

Week of March 10, 2008

LIFE SCIENCE--this week are continuing our study of evolution. We completed our timelines and our reflection piece. We are working on an evolution organizer that will be completed in class.

There will be a quiz on evolution on Tuesday, March 18 and a test over Ch. 5-evolution on Friday, March 21 or possibly Tuesday, March 25.

Print it as a handout with 6 slides per page and you'll have a nice hand out.

FRI.-Complete questions 1-7 of the Branching Tree worksheet for HW.

RCICA--We are wrapping up our Fantastic Voyage study by using a video guide as we watch the film vresion of the story.  The novel was based on the movie (as opposed to how it usually goes), so it is interesting to compare and contrast the two.  We will complete our reflection piece on Friday.

Weds: Complete Evolution Vocabulary/Impact side 2 (what impact did/do these things have on evolution?)

Thurs. Use the Evolution Vocabulary/Impact  handout to study for your evolution vocabulary quiz.

You will have an Evolution mid-point test on Weds. March 12.
