This week we will be covering advances in genetics. We completed Genetics With a Smile today (Monday) and began a Round Robin Reading activity to introduce Selective Breeding, Cloning, DNA Fingerprinting and Genetic Engineering.

Educational Excellence Expertise From Mrs. Babcock:   It is helpful to use word associations to make connections to words that represent similar concepts.  In the study of genetics, the word phenotype begins with ph and refers to an organism’s physical appearance which also begins with ph.   The word genotype begins with gen and refers to an organism’s genetic makeup which also beings with gen.

Week of Feb. 1, 2010

4th and 6th period AC classes: your 3-D double helix DNA model project is due on Feb. 4. You can down load the rubric here: Download DNA model Rubric2

Some of you in 5th period decided that you wanted to make the DNA model. Remember, this is optional for you. If you choose not to make the model, it will not count against you. You have the same due date--Feb 4. Since this is an optional project, late work will not be accepted. You will be held to the same standards as the AC classes (for whom this is a required task) and will be graded accordingly.

We have a genetics vocabulary quiz scheduled for Weds. Study your flash cards and the genetics terms powerpoint posted on last week's blog.
